Lou Maguolo was a baseball scout for the St. Louis Browns and New York Yankees in the 1940’s-50’s. Based in St. Louis Missouri Maguolo scouted primarily in the Midwest. He was best known for signing Yankee greats Bill Skowron Tony Kubek and Fritz Peterson. Maguolo also scouted such players as Bob Keegan Al LaMacchia Don Lenhardt Herb Plews Lou Skizas Bob Wiesler Al Pilarcik Whitey Herzog Cal Neeman Norm Siebern Lee Thomas and Dennis Werth.
For his contributions in helping build and sustain baseball’s greatest dynasty Maguolo received this 1949 New York Yankees World Series 10k gold money clip. The rare presentation piece features a circular central portion with period Yankees top-hat logo accented by a trio of red white and blue stones. Lettered around the edge is "World Champions 1949." It comes housed in its original faux red leather lidded box which bears the Yankees logo with "Christmas 1949" below in gold. The money clip is lightly tarnished but essentially unused. The box shows scattered wear throughout but remains structurally sound.
