Bobby Doerr arrived in Boston as a 19-year-old rookie in 1937 having played pro ball since 1934. He was signed by Eddie Collins on the same scouting trip that netted Ted Williams. As the team's established second baseman in 1938 Doerr batted .289 and never hit below .270 in his next 13 seasons with the Red Sox his only major league team. In those years Doerr thrice topped .300 led the league in slugging in 1944 and played in eight All-Star games. In his only World Series appearance in 1946 Doerr was a tower of strength batting .406 with a homer and three RBI to pace the Red Sox in their losing seven-game struggle with the Cardinals. Doerrs sixty-year friendship with Boston Red Sox teammates Dominic DiMaggio Johnny Pesky and Ted Williams was chronicled in David Halberstam's memorable 2004 book The Teammates. In 1986 Doerr was voted into the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. Offered here is the only known Booby Doerr original unaltered uniform in the hobby. Dating from the 1948-50 period the Red Sox home ensemble includes matching jersey and pants featuring identical McAuliffe and Wilson dual tagging. The jersey features the name Doerr chain stitched on a felt strip tag in the collar while the pants bear a similarly stitched No Shrink tag in the waistband. All lettering and numerals are original and unaltered with both items show excellent usage wear. The jersey shows an area of slight discoloration on the right front tail area and a hole is present on the right mid chest area of the front. The pants show comparable use with no holes or tears. It is worth note the rarity of finding uniforms from this era with matching components as opposed to a marriage of jersey and pants from different seasons or slightly varying style. This is a uniform on the want list of every collector of Hall of Fame flannel as it stands as the only original garment of its kind from this immensely popular Red Sox great.

Includes a comprehensive LOA from MEARS (Grade A8).
