This is a wonderful example of the important Mazzolino Pottery statues that portrayed the Cleveland Indians famed mascot Chief Wahoo. The company made perhaps the finest rendition of this intriguing mascot dated 1947 under the base and apparently was ordered by the Cleveland Indians for distribution. The 8-inch high figure is in remarkable condition with only the tiniest nick on his politically incorrect nose some paint loss or fading from his feather and much less across the Indians logo on the front of his shirt or his zero number on the back. As noted it has stamping on the bottom of the green base from Mazzolino and the Cleveland Indians Baseball Corp. with the latter stating that a patent was applied for. Super example of a highly coveted early porcelain series that ranks among the most important in the hobby. Includes a Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA84 Collection.
