Following upon the success of Major League Baseball's All-Star Game initiated by Chicago sportswriter Arch Ward in 1933 the Chicago Charities College Football All-Star Game began in 1934. Ward recognized the immense popularity of collegiate football during the period and set forth to create a showcase game played between the best collegians and the leading professional players. Played at Chicago's Soldier Field the games routinely shattered attendance records inclusive of the 1947 game played before 105000 fans.
Presented here are the jersey and pants worn by Glenn Davis the 1946 Heisman Memorial Trophy winner from West Point during his final collegiate football game. The distinctive uniform from the 1947 College All-Star game includes Davis size 42 jersey manufactured by May & Halas Inc. of Chicago. The original manufacturers tag is attached on the interior of the crotch flap. The navy blue dureen jersey features red felt stars against a metallic grey background on the shoulders. It has a white satin number 6 on the chest as well as on back and red white and blue striping down the side. A strip of vintage tape with Davis name on it is adhered to the front and has been signed by Davis in blue sharpie. The pants are also manufactured by May & Halas Inc. of Chicago and are size 32. They have the original tag inside and "Davis" is imprinted inside the waistband in vintage black marker. Davis has added his autograph "Glenn Davis 1947 beside it. The lace-front pants are metallic grey in color with grey satin on the front and red white and blue striping down the side. Excellent usage wear is evident with no significant structural faults apart from a hole on the right side piping of the pants.
