A wonderful ball featuring the signatures of several members of the ballclub that changed America the 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers. Besides being the team that started the Dodgers string of six pennants in ten years, it also featured Jackie Robinson and Dan Bankhead, the first Black player and first Black pitcher to appear in the majors. Featuring a balanced blend of veterans and rookies, the Dodgers won the pennant by five games and had to face the Yankees in the World Series. This ball, bearing an inscription attributing it to Game 4, begs a short recap of that exciting game. Played at Brooklyns Ebbets Field, the game was a tight contest that went into the bottom of the ninth with Yankees starter Bill Bevens throwing a no-hitter and clinging to a 2-1 lead. With two outs, the Dodgers managed to get two runners on base followed by a double by Al Gionfriddo that scored the tying and winning run. Ten members of the 1947 NL Champs signed this Ford Frick Official National League ball including Hall of Famers Jackie Robinson, Pee Wee Reese, and Gil Hodges along with ace reliever Hugh Casey, slugger Pete Reiser, pitchers Clyde King and Joe Hatten, outfielder Gene Hermanski, and Dan Bankhead, who, like Jackie Robinson, made history in 1947 as the first Black pitcher in the majors. An unknown hand has inscribed one of the panels with 4th Game World Series 1947 Dodgers Yankees. The ball shows light even toning from age and the signatures are very strong against the cream white leather. The ball comes with an LOA from PSA/DNA.
