The Cleveland Buckeyes were one of the most formidable Negro League teams of the 1940s era capturing the World Series title in 1945 and the Negro American League Title in 1947. This lot includes a very fine original black and white 8" by 10" image of the reigning 1945 Champion Buckeyes posed in full uniform. Based on the “1945 World’s Colored Champions” patches on their uniform sleeves this image was almost certainly taken in 1946. A photographer’s stamp from Sterling Enterprises of Cleveland appears on back as well as a modern Louisville Slugger sticker. The image is crystal clear and displays well in spite of creasing throughout. VG condition.
Also featured is a 1955 Memphis Red Sox Negro League autographed game used baseball. The lightly soiled ONL (Giles) was ball used in a Memphis Red Sox game played on July 27 1955. Ball has been signed (both printed names and signatures) by members of the team incl. C.Pride I.Harris F.Russell and C.Reed. Sigs range from 3-8 out of 10. VG-EX overall.
