Interesting signed baseball from key members of the cast of the 1942 classic Lou Gehrig biographical movie The Pride of the Yankees given to Ludwig Stossel who portrayed Gehrig's father in the film. The sweet spot of the Spalding Official League baseball is printed "-LUDWIG STOSSEL-" and signed below "With appreciation Eleanor Gehrig". The panel below has been signed by Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Bill Dickey as well as actor Gary Cooper who portrayed Gehrig in the film. On the panel to the right of the sweet spot Director Sam Wood and Producer Sam Goldwyn have both signed. On the panel to the left co-star Walter Brennen and former ballplayer Babe Herman who doubled for Cooper in long shots and served as technical adviser have both signed. Very nice 8/10 black ink Babe Ruth signature with Brennen Gehrig Wood and Goldwyn being about 9/10 and Cooper Herman and Dickey 3-5/10. Ball itself has toned over the years with a few stains but nothing that distracts from the autographs. A hole has been drilled on the side opposite the sweet spot for mounting far away from any signatures. Great display piece!
