May 26th 1938 signed handwritten letter from Daniel M. Casey thanking the correspondent for their interest in his baseball career. Casey was a pitcher who played mainly during the 1880's and claimed to be "the" Casey about whom Ernest L. Thayer wrote his famous poem "Casey at the Bat.". Thayer always said his work was not based on a real player. Letter is signed in 8/10 vintage steel tip pen black ink "Daniel M. Casey D.M.C. Casey at the Bat". 5 1/2" by 9 letter is in great condition except for the pair of dark tape stains at top center and lower left edge.
The letter was shown to PSA/DNA and their opinion was "Inconclusive." They say this when they have little to no experience evaluating obscure autographs. It's neither a pass nor fail.
