Rick Ferrell was a major league catcher for 18 seasons playing from 1929 to 1947 for three different teams: the St. Louis Browns the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Senators. At the time of his retirement he owned the American League record for games caught behind the plate with 1806 a mark that stood until Carlton Fisk broke it in 1988. Ferrell started at catcher for the America League in the inaugural 1933 All-Star Game in Chicago and would go on to participate in a total of eight All-Star Games throughout his career. A career .281 hitter Ferrell topped the .300 plateau in four different seasons and was inducted into Cooperstown in 1984.

Rick Ferrell game bats are relatively scarce in the category of pre-war Hall of Famers with only a handful of examples known in the hobby. Presented here is Ferrell's Louisville Slugger 125 model bat that measures 35" long and weighs 33.4oz. The bat shows strong evidence of usage including a repaired handle crack. Ball and cleat marks are present on the barrel in abundance as well as general surface wear from use. Some faint written notations that appear to be measurements and possible side writing are faintly evident on the barrel. Vault mark "F28" is stamped on both the knob and barrel ends further substantiating this as one of the best of the few Rick Ferrell bats we've seen.
