The 1938 and 1939 Washington Redskins football teams were forces to be reckoned with. Both squads were coached by Ray Flaherty and the Redskins proved to be formidable foes during both campaigns. This white leather Spalding Inter-Collegiate Football was signed by members of both teams and was additionally signed by Glenn S. Pop Warner the former college football coach who was the founding father of the popular Pop Warner youth football leagues. In both years the Redskins were quarterbacked by Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh who led the 38 team to a 6-3-2 record which was good enough for second place in the NFL East division and the 39 squad to an 8-2-1 mark and another second-place finish in the division. In addition to Flaherty Warner and Baugh this football possesses 50 more signatures on it all in black ink. Though some names appear faded over time the key signatures on this football belong to players Andy Farkas Don Irvin Bob McChesney Vic Carroll Boyd Morgan Bo Russell Hal Bradley Jim Johnston John Spirida Wilbur Moore and Bill Young. Redskins assistant coach Roy Baker also signed the football.
