Presented here is a stunning sepia tone 7" by 9" original photograph of Lou Gehrig jumping over a bat held by young Joe DiMaggio. The playful shot was taken early in 1937 during Spring Training in St. Petersburg, Florida, after the Yankee teammates had just finalized and signed their new contracts. 22-year-old Joltin' Joe was coming off his standout rookie season and the Iron Horse had just won his second MVP award while still deep into his record consecutive games streak.

 

This timeless image of two baseball legends is well known throughout the hobby, retaining fine contrast and clarity with only a few surface wrinkles on the right side. The reverse is stamped by International News and dated "Mar 22 1937" with the original caption slug still attached, albeit facing inward inside the jumbo holder. The only known original photo of this image, it originated from the personal collection of Joe DiMaggio as is labeled on the flip. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA. According to photo authenticator Henry Yee, it is the only Type 1 that exists.
