1) The larger coin-like medallion was presented by New York City mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia to local New York 1936 Olympians. This one in particular went to U.S. swimmer Ralph Flanagan who earned a silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Summer Games in the 4 x 200 meter relay. Flanagan competed in the 1932 Los Angeles Summer Games as a 13-year-old. At the '36 Games he finished 4th and 5th in two individual events in addition to his silver medal in the relay. Flanagan had his name engraved to the medallion at a later date. These were all issued nameless. The alloy metal coin/medallion is 2" in diameter. The obverse has a central emblem with two figures an eagle and a shield with the inscription "PRESENTED BY - FIORELLO H. LA GUARDIA - MAYOR TO - RALPH FLANAGAN - 1936 OLYMPIAN." The reverse is a hand holding up a laurel branch. It comes in VG-EX condition.

2) The smaller medallion was presented by City of Los Angeles to local Southern California 1936 U.S. Olympians. The 1" x 1 3/4" thin piece alloy is rectangular in shape except for top. The design is L.A. City Hall and a discus thrower with laurel branches and L.A. city emblem on top. Inscribed "HONOR AWARD - CITY OF LOS ANGELES - PARTICIPANT - XI OLYMPIAD - 1936." It comes in GD-VG condition.

Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from the Helms/LA 84 Collection.
