This team photograph captures the New York Yankees on the eve of the 1936 World Series. 1936 marked the beginning of the Yankees’ second dynasty era, in which they won four consecutive World Championships, followed by a fifth in 1941. Rookie Joe DiMaggio teamed up with veteran Lou Gehrig to form the best one-two punch in the American League. And while those two provided the power at the plate, pitchers Red Ruffing and Lefty Gomez gave the Yanks the finest righty-lefty rotation in the game. A huge factor in the team’s continued success lay with manager Joe McCarthy’s fine handling of a cast of aging veterans and raw rookies to fill any holes in the lineup. The front of this Type 1 image shows excellent detail and full borders. The reverse has the United Press International stamp and the original 9/22/1936 dated caption slug, complete with a key to all the players depicted. The photograph measures 9” x 7” and has been encapsulated and graded a Type 1 by PSA.
