Presented here is a very unique 10 karat gold track shoe-shaped pendant presented to U.S. Track & Field star David Albritton by his alma mater Ohio State University in 1936 after he set a new world record in the high jump. At the 1936 U.S. Olympic Trials both Albritton and Cornelius Johnson cleared 6 feet 9 3/4 inches to set the world record in the high jump thus making them the first African-Americans to hold the world record in the event. At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin Albritton finished 2nd to Johnson with a jump of 6 feet 6 3/4 inches. He earned the silver medal in a "jump-off" after he and two other jumpers cleared the same height. When the two Americans went to collect their medals they were each snubbed by Adolph Hitler.

Albritton shares a lot in common with the legendary Jesse Owens: both were born in Alabama (Albritton in Danville Owens in nearby Oakville); both attended East Technical High School in Cleveland Ohio; both attended Ohio State University and were members of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity; and of course both starred in the 1936 Olympic Games. The right track shoe has a small real diamond on the toe with "DAVID ALBRITTON" engraved on one side with the Ohio State "O" and a raised "1936" on the other. The bottom is stamped "10K" and engraved "1936 - OLYMPICS WORLDS RECORD 6:9 3/4". Pendant measures almost 1 1/4" long and weighs 4 grams.
