Leo Durocher game bats remain among the rarest of all Hall of Fame players. Presently there are only a handful of known examples dating from his days with the famed St. Louis Cardinals "Gas House" gang. Offered is one of those specimens — a 35" 31-1/2 oz. Angie Giuliani signature model bat that was later used and returned to the factory by Leo Durocher on 8/9/35 as indicated by the side writing. The bat is composed of top quality white ash and features distinct and legible manufacturer's stampings throughout. Heavy game use is exhibited in the form of deadwood on the reverse of the barrel (secured with approximately 45 small vintage nails) and two separate cracks in the handle one of which extends through the knob. The side writing is clearly legible and reads "Leo Durocher 8-9-35 St. Louis Natl." Additionally a pen notation on the handle reads "Leo Durocher - St. L. Cardinals - St. Louis 8-9-35." Angie Giuliani played with the St. Louis Browns in 1936 and 1937. Although the exact circumstances of how Durocher obtained this bat from Giuliani will never be known it's possible that the two met during the pre-season (before the Browns' roster was reduced) as both clubs shared the same ballpark (Sportsman's Park). Regardless the side writing places this bat directly in the hands of Leo Durocher in the summer of 1935 and as such represents a significant Hall of Famer's game bat dating to "Leo the Lip's" tenure with the St. Louis Cardinals.

LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (GU8).
