Pitting the best players from the American League and National League against each other The All-Star Game made its debut on July 6 1933 at Chicagos Comiskey Park. Arch Ward a sports editor for the Chicago Tribune thought of the idea for the game as a draw to coincide with the celebration of Chicagos Century of Progress Exposition. While the game featured such future Hall of Famers as Gehrig Foxx Simmons etc. of course it was Babe Ruths star that shone brightest. As the games biggest attraction Ruth lived up the hype thrilling the fans as he blasted a home run that proved to be the difference in the ALs 4-2 victory. This Official AL baseball is signed by inaugural All-Star team members Babe Ruth Lou Gehrig Jimmie Foxx. Lefty Gomez Joe Cronin Lefty Grove(sweet spot) Al Simmons Bill Dickey Jimmy Dykes Earl Averill Wes Ferrell Alvin Crowder and additional non-All-Stars Mickey Cochrane (sweet spot) Dale Alexander Monte Weaver and Marty McManus are also present. All signatures are done in black fountain pen and range from 7 to 10 with Ruth and Gehrig among the boldest. Ball is moderately toned with a light coat of shellac.
