This awesome Type 3 news photo captures the beginning of the end of “Scarface” Al Capone. Capone is shown leaving the Federal Building in Chicago after the first day of his trial on tax evasion and a litany of other felonies. The usually cocky Capone looks uncharacteristically introspective and subdued, obviously finally realizing the seriousness of the charges he faced. The Chicago gangster’s trial was massive news, and this Type 3 photo was one of those chosen to be wired to newspapers all around the world. The Type 3 image measures 8" x 10" and has all four borders. The reverse of the photo has the N.E.A. and Acme Newspictures credit stamps, original caption slug, and numerous hand written notations. Encapsulated Type 3 by PSA/DNA.
