This Sporting News Record Book recaps one of the greatest baseball seasons of all time: 1927. That season found Babe Ruth destroying American League pitching as he set the new record for home runs with 60. He and his Yankees would go on to dismantle the Pirates in four straight games to cement the 1927 Yanks as one of the greatest ballclubs in the history of the game. And the cover of the record book recounting that tremendous season featured 1927’s Most Valuable Player: Lou Gehrig. That year Lou hit 47 homers while batting .373 and leading the American League in doubles, RBI, and total bases. Besides recounting MLB’s records up to and including the 1927 season, the center of this handy book lists all of Ruth’s 60 home runs as well as the pitcher and opposing team. As the up to date bible of baseball, this book shows good use. The pages are toned from age and the covers have slight tears with some creasing, but the staples are present, and all pages are firmly held in place. A great piece of history published after one of baseball’s most exciting seasons. The cover of this book was used by the photo currently featured in this auction in Lot 378.
