The 1920s are considered the Golden Age of American advertising art, with the most sought after examples being those depicting sports stars. In 1928, cigarette manufacturer Lucky Strike produced perhaps the most striking examples of this uniquely American art form, depicting a wide-ranging roster of celebrity sports stars of the day. This trolly car advertising panel depicts the 1927 National League Most Valuable Player, Paul Waner. The Pirates star hit .380 while driving in 130 runs to help lead Pittsburgh to the World Series. Waner is shown taking a might cut in front of the famous Lucky Strike bullseye logo. The stadium green background makes the golden type and white of Waner Pirates uniform jump off the surface. The piece measures 10 x20 and is in stunning condition, showing just light wear and toning from age. The colors are stark and vibrant, enhance further by it being professionally matted and framed.
