O'Doul was not just one of the PCL's greatest stars he would also come to be recognized as their greatest ambassador. O'Doul hailed from San Francisco and was a legendary performer in the PCL in the early 1920's before eventually moving up to the major leagues. In 1935 he returned to his hometown and to the PCL to become player/manager of the San Francisco Seals where he would wind up tutoring another bay area legend Joe DiMaggio. O'Doul continued in his role of player/manager with the Seals until 1945. The offered bat dates from 1928-30 period the height of ODouls major league career. As a member of the Phillies ODoul finished second in voting for league MVP in 1929 with an incredible league leading .398 average. The H&B Frank "Lefty" O'Doul professional model bat shows evidence of heavy use with a handle crack that has been repaired. Many ball marks and cleat impressions are visible on the right left and back barrel. The barrel has been scored to give the ball better lift on contact. Also visible on the barrel are cleat marks. The handle has been scored to enhance the grip. A review of Frank "Lefty" O'Douls Professional Bat Ordering Record on file at Louisville Slugger indicates that the subject bat matches perfectly bats ordered by O'Doul during the referenced labeling period. The scoring visible on the bat is a great example of game preparation. O'Doulbats are very rare. In the accompanying LOA from PSA/DNA dated February 15 2012 it is noted that this is the only O'Doul bat that has been presented to that firm for authentication. Furthermore no O'Doul bats appear on the database of MEARS (Memorabilia Evaluation and Research Services).

Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Graded GU8).
