9" by 31 1/2" panoramic black & white photo featuring a game between the Red Grange's Chicago Bears and the Los Angeles Tigers. The photo shows a pause in the game as a tribute to University of California coach Andy Smith who passed away unexpectedly 8 days earlier at the young age of 42. As head coach of the California Golden Bears from 1916 through 1952 Smith guided his "Wonder Teams" to a record of 74167. During that period he won 5 Pacific Coast Conference titles and claimed 3 National College Football Championships. His total of 74 wins as Cal head coach was not broken until 2011. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1951. Photo shows all players and fans standing in a moment of silence. Front center of panorama captioned "A SILENT TRIBUTE TO - ANDY SMITH - CALIFORNIA'S COACH "RED" GRANGE'S CHICAGO BEARS - V.S. - P. H. Some illegible pencil writing on the back.
