Outstanding original portrait photograph of Rogers Hornsby, whose Hall of Fame résumé is lengthy: 2-time N.L. MVP, 2-time Triple Crown winner, 7-time N.L. batting champion and a 1926 World Series title with his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. This photo is nearing a century old, but vividly captures the second baseman's determined and focused posture during his story-tale 1925 campaign in which he captured his first MVP and second Triple Crown, and batted over .400 for the third time. Only George Sisler in his prime (and maybe Ty Cobb who overlapped in the latter half of his career) can say he challenged Hornsby as MLB's best pure hitter of his generation.

The poignant shot has a tremendous artistic appeal with little shadows looming in Hornsby's eye sockets. Corners and edges are as sharp as they come for a Type 1. Picture clarity is exceptionally sharp. A vitually flawless shot of a baseball legend. Stamped by N.E.A. with a "April 1, 1925" date and pencil notations on the reverse.
