The term home field advantage took on a whole new meaning in 1923 as baseball's grand cathedral, Yankees Stadium, opened much to the dismay of the New York Giants. Although the two-time defending champions would finally reclaim the Polo Grounds for themselves, "The House That Ruth Built " towered over their yard and featured an enormous seating capacity with an architectural beauty that was second to none. The Giants had generously shared their field with the Yankees (and Highlanders) since 1913, but now found themselves standing in the shadow of their cross-town rivals. The shift in power was consummated after the Yankees defeated the Giants in six games in the 1923 World Series.
Presented here is an incredibly rare full unused ticket to the Game 6 clincher at the Polo Grounds on October 15 that saw Babe Ruth and the Yankees win franchise's first of what is now 27 World Series title. The Bambino hit three homers in the series including a solo shot in this deciding game. Slabbed "Authentic" by PSA, this is one of only three fulls ever encapsulated. The others are "Authentic" and Fair 1.5, respectively. The ticket, with "VOID" in green across the front, has a very clean front with strong print colors. The corners are only a bit rounded and, aside from a cut/gouge along the top edge, the sides retain a relatively smooth and straight rectangular shape. A minor wrinkle crease near the upper right, two tiny punctures on the far right (over "Row" and "Seat"), and one small brown stain on the lower right are the other blemishes. Three large areas of paper loss on the back prevent this example from earning a number grade, but the front displays wonderfully.
