Presented here is a scarce third place winner’s bronze medal from the 1920 Antwerp Summer Olympics. The 1916 Olympic Games were canceled due to WW1 but following the 1918 Armistice the 1920 Games went on as scheduled. The Olympic flag was flown for the first time at these Belgium Games that starred Finnish distance runner Paavo Nurmi and USA’s Hawaiian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku who later became the Godfather of surfing. This exquisite bronze medal was one of 400 issued for the Games of the VII Olympiad. Obverse shows a victorious Olympic athlete holding a laurel branch with Fame blowing her horn in the background. Reverse has a monument of Antwerp commemorating the legend of Braba with the Cathedral and Port of Antwerp in the background. ''VII Olympiade'' is on obverse and ''Anvers MCMXX'' is on reverse. Designer Josue Dupon engraved both sides. The pure bronze medal was minted by Coosemans. 60 mm in diameter and 3.5 mm thick. Weight 85 grams. NM condition overall.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from renowned Olympic memorabilia expert Ingrid O'Neil.
