Presented here is a rare second place winner’s silver medal fromthe1920 Antwerp Summer Olympics. The 1916 Olympic Games were canceled dueto WW1 but following the 1918 Armistice the 1920 Games went on asscheduled. The Olympic flag was flown for the first time at theseBelgium Games that starred Finnish distance runner Paavo Nurmi and USA’sHawaiian swimmer Duke Kahanamoku who later became known as the"Godfather of Surfing." This exquisite silver medal was one of 400issued for the Gamesof the VII Olympiad.

Obverse shows a victorious Olympic athlete holdinga laurel branch with Fame blowing her horn in the background. Reversehas a monument of Antwerp commemorating the legend of Braba with theCathedral and Port of Antwerp in the background. ''VII Olympiade'' is onobverse and ''Anvers MCMXX'' is on reverse. Designer Josue Duponengraved both sides. The pure silver medal was minted by Coosemans. 60mm in diameter and 3.5 mm thick. Weight 90 grams. Present in VFcondition with significant wear from handling on the obverse. Very toughto find any winner's medal from these important 1920 Games.
