Crystal clear black & white photo featuring the 1913-14 New York Giants - Chicago White Sox World tour party during their stop at the Vatican in Rome. The entire party is decked out in formal wear with Hall of Fame Managers John McGraw and Charles Comiskey sitting front and canter. From studying the faces it appears about 20 or more players are pictured. Members of the tour were as follows: Giants - Larry Doyle Hooks Wiltse Fred Merkle Mike Donlin Mike Doolan Lee Magee Jim Thorpe Hans Lobert Ivey Wingo Bunny Hearne and Red Faber(HOF). The White Sox included - Jim Scott Tris Speaker(HOF) Jack Bliss Joe Benz Nixey Callahan Germany Schaefer Buck Weaver Sam Crawford(HOF) Dick Egan Walter Leverenz Tommy Daly Andy Slight and Steve Evans. Hall of Fame umpire Bill Klem also made the trip. Large format photo measures about 8 3/4" by 14" and could well have been cut down from a larger size.(Part of "Taken at the Vatican in Rome in pencil on back looks as if it was cut off at the top) "MIKE" has been written over Mike Donlin's head "MCGRAW" written below John McGraw and "MRS MCGRAW" below his wife all in the same vital black steel-tip pen ink. Taped to the back is a 9/19/1957 tribute by the Banshees Award Committee to Mrs. John McGraw. Photo has a few very light creases and a little corner wear but displays beautifully.
