In 1914, the Card Baseball Co. produced an unusual tabletop diversion known as the Polo Grounds Game (today cataloged by hobby standards as WG4), a 54-card set of black-and-white action photographs used as playing pieces to simulate a real baseball game, with printed outcomes like "Ball," "Hit," and "Strike" running along the card's edges to dictate play. The set is stacked with Hall of Fame talent, including Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Christy Mathewson, Nap Lajoie, Eddie Collins, and John McGraw, but few names carry the weight of Honus Wagner, the legendary Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop widely regarded as one of the greatest players of the dead-ball era and a member of baseball's inaugural 1936 Hall of Fame class.

Offered here is the Wagner "short 1 base hit/dropped ball" variation from this scarce early-20th-century issue, showing an in-action photograph of Wagner with his surname and team printed below, flanked by the game's play-outcome text. Graded PSA NM-MT 8, this example sits at the top of the condition census for a set rarely found in high grade, given its intended use as an actual game piece. A tremendous opportunity for Wagner collectors or pre-war baseball specialists seeking a scarce, top-graded oddball issue.
