Dating from the heart of Ty Cobbs prolific career is this fine Spalding professional model bat. More specifically the date of this Cobb war club has been placed to the 1914-20 period. It is well known that Ty Cobb used Spalding bats in the early to middle part of his career. As with many turn-of-the-century ball players factory records for Ty Cobb are limited and exclusive to Louisville Slugger bats. No factory records are available for bats manufactured by Spalding however a comparison with his subsequent Louisville Slugger records reveals that this bat exhibits matching traits of H&B factory recorded Ty Cobb bats and represents the exact criteria preferred by Ty Cobb for his game used bats of the same period. The length is a perfectly accurate 34" as is the 39 ounce weight. The hand turned ends show special care was taken for the preparation of this bat. The manufacturers markings include a simple SPALDING centerbrand stamping block letter name COBB on the barrel and Spalding logo stamp on the knob. An examination of this Cobb gamer shows evidence of heavy use including pronounced ball marks cleat marks however it remains uncracked with a fine original patina. MEARS has authenticated and graded the bat A8 due to a base grade of 5 plus 3 points for strong usage traits. Given the era of usage and overall presentation quality this is a fine example of one of the most coveted sports memorabilia objects known a bat wielded by the great Ty Cobb.

Includes a LOA from MEARS (Graded A8).
