For fifteen years Frank Chance anchored himself at first base awaiting the baseball as his teammate Johnny Evers pivoted at second and reared himself to make the throw. Known mainly for his role in the immortal Tinker-Evers-Chance double play combination Chance also possessed considerable skill with the lumber. He compiled a respectable .296 batting average led the National League with 103 runs scored in 1906 won two stolen base titles and hit .310 in four World Series appearances. As an effective player/manager he led the Cubs to four pennants in five years and their last World Series championship in 1908. He also went on to manage the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. In 1946 Frank Chance along with his double play partners Johnny Evers and Joe Tinker was elected to baseballs Hall of Fame. This rare Hillerich & Bradsby Frank Chance professional model bat shows evidence of heavy use with a handle crack. Many ball marks are visible on all sides of the barrel and remnants of a shipping label are visible on the back barrel. The barrel is covered with a dark residue which is commonplace for bats that were returned to the factory during the era. In addition to the dark residue there appears to be a dark gripping substance on the handle. The front right and left barrels have been planed to accept factory side writing.Visible though very faint on the left barrel is Frank.Chance. The full return date is not visible however the day of the month and year '8-11' are visible. On the right barrel in lead pencil is the name Frank Chance. This exceptionally rare pre-war Hall of Famer bat features many of the most desirable traits valued by astute game used bat collectors.

Includes a LOA from John Taube of PSA/DNA (Graded GU8.5).
