In 1925 upon the Golden Anniversary of the National League members of the first ever Pittsburgh Pirates Championship team of 1901 gathered for a reunion at a lavish banquet thrown by team owner Barney Dreyfuss at Pittsburgh's Hotel Schenley.

A copy of a period photograph (shown here but not included) captures the scene of the festive and historic celebration of past Champions and announcing the Golden Jubilee of the National League. In the deep background can be spotted the members of the 1901 Pirates squad.

Many of those the same gentlemen autographed this extraordinary ONL (Heydler) ball that made the rounds in that very room that evening.  Among the 13 signatures present is an extraordinarily rare example of Hall of Fame pitcher Jack Chesbro (5/10) who would pass away just six years after this event at age fifty-seven. Joining Chesbro on the ball are fellow Hall of Famers Fred Clarke (4/10) Honus Wagner (4/10) and Barney Dreyfuss (3/10). Also here (ranging 2-4/10) are George Yeager Deacon Philllippe Jesse Tannehill Kitty Bransfield Claude Ritchey Ginger Beaumont Jimmy Burke and three others that we cannot discern due to fading.   Although the legible signatures are mostly faint the rarity of such a ball signed by original members of the 1901 Pittsburgh Pirates World Championship team cannot be overstated. Moreover finding the autograph of Jack Chesbro in any form much less an item of this importance is a rare feat among collectors.
