This partially printed land grant document is dated April 19 1800 and signed by John Adams (1735-1826) second President of the United States. The official government document grants a 2000 acre parcel of land to a Mr. James Knox who was a major in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment in lieu of currency and in consideration of his military service. The document printed and handwritten on parchment has been officially signed in black ink along the bottom by the President "John Adams" (7-8/10) and Secretary of State "Timothy Pickering" (8/10). In the lower left corner is the embossed white Seal of the Presidency which is complete and fully intact. Adams signed this document during the final year of his only term as President. He lost the election of 1800 to his Vice President Thomas Jefferson just eight months later. Adams was one of the most important figures in American politics in the formative years of our nation. In addition to being the second President of the United States he served as a member of the Continental Congress from 1774 to 1778 and for two terms served as the Vice President under George Washington (1789-1797). Adams was also one of only two signers of the Declaration of Independence to later serve as President (the other being Jefferson). The document has some slight natural toning and fold lines as is usually the case with Land Grants from this era and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Expensively matted and framed to overall dimensions of 17" x 19".
