Argentine footballer Juan Román Riquelme spent the bulk of his playing career with the Boca Juniors in his native country, leaving an indelible mark as one of the club’s all-time greats. It is only fitting that he now holds the title of team president. An attacking midfielder who perfected the enganche role, he led Boca to 11 titles in two stints (1996-02, 2007-14) with the club, his playmaking and creativity earning him the nickname, “El Torero” (The Bullfighter). From 2002 to ‘07 Riquelme played for Barcelona and Villareal in Spain’s La Liga, helping the latter reach the Champions League Semifinals for the first time. In 51 career caps for Argentina (1997-08), he scored 17 goals and assisted on dozens more. He was captain of La Albiceleste at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany and helped guide his nation to a gold medal triumph alongside Lionel Messi at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Offered here is the Argentina National Team jersey worn by Riquelme for a World Cup Qualifier match against Colombia on November 16, 1997. It marked his senior team debut after being called up from the U-20 squad. Riquelme came on as a second half substitute in the 1-1 draw. The classic sky blue and white striped shirt has the AFA (Argentine Football Association) logo patch in gold on the left chest, with player number “16” in black felt on the front and back. It comes in size 4 with proper Adidas tagging in the collar and an official AFA/Adidas co-branded label sewn on the left tail. The shirt exhibits an appropriate amount of moderate wear that is consistent throughout. According to the included COA, the provenance is through Italian footballer Amedeo Carboni, a longtime member of Valencia who played against Riquelme in La Liga.
