A native of Hollis Queens Peter Vecsey grew up worshipping the Brooklyn Dodgers. His father George was a sports writer for AP radio which afforded him a pass that granted access into each home game at Ebbets Field. Many a morning young Peter would cop the pass from his Dad’s wallet cut school and take numerous buses and trains from Hollis Queens to Flatbush to root for his beloved Bums. His favorite above them all was Jackie Robinson.
Presented here is Peter Vecsey’s personal framed display showcasing his reverence for the great Jackie Robinson as well as another of his sports idols Willis Reed. The elements include Vecsey’s personally obtained Jackie Robinson autograph on an album page from his childhood album. Jackie’s signature is accompanied by that of Bob Bragan dating the origin of piece to about 1947-48. On the back of the album page is a signature of Kareem Abdul Jabaar obtained at a much later date a copy of which is affixed to the back of the frame. Also matted within the display are original ticket stubs to Games 2 and 6 of the 1956 World Series and a 11” x 14” photo of Robinson and Reed together personally inscribed to Vecsey by Reed. The overall dimensions of the piece are 21” by 24” inches. The item originates from the personal collection of Peter Vecsey and includes a letter of provenance.
