Following his Hall of Fame baseball career with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Willie Stargell remained a part of professional baseball by serving as a coach for the Atlanta Braves. This lot features his 1996 Atlanta Braves National League Championship Ring, which was issued to him as a coach. In fact, he was the first minor-league hitting coach for future Hall ofFamer and Braves lifer, Chipper Jones. This lot features Stargell's 1996 Atlanta Braves National League Championship ring issued to him as a coach.
The 10-karat gold ring comes in size 11 3/4 and weighs 36 grams. It is beautifully designed with a sea of diamonds around a raised Braves logo design in the center surrounded by raised lettering that reads: “ATLANTA N.L. CHAMPS.” Four beautifully set 10-point rubies are positioned equally around the sea of small diamonds on the top. On one shank the ring reads “1996 FIVE STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES 4 OUT OF 5 WORLD SERIES.” The other shank simply reads “STARGELL” and “STAFF” positioned around the Atlanta Braves home ballpark with the words: “ATLANTA FULTON CO. STADIUM” and “1966 – 1996.” The inside of the band is engraved “©10K.” The Braves finished that year with a 96-66 regular-season record and lost to the New York Yankees in the World Series, four games to two, after going up two games to zero.
