Willie Mays was a sensational slugging center fielder for the New York (then San Francisco) Giants from 1951 to 1972 at which time he was traded to the New York Mets. He finished his career with the Mets and retired following the 73 season. Starting and finishing his career in the Big Apple Mays launched a total of 660 career home runs batted .302 and collected 3283 hits. The two-time National League MVP (1954 and 65) was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. This lot includes a trifecta of Mays-autographed memorabilia. The first signed item is a 34-inch Adirondack personal model bat that Mays signed in blue marker on the bat barrel. The second item is a pristine snow white official MLB (Selig) baseball that Mays signed in blue ink on the sweet spot (graded PSA/DNA Mint +9.5). The third and final piece to this Say Hey Kid extravaganza is a signed 8 x 10 black-and-white photo of his famous over-the-shoulder catch in 1954 of a long fly ball by Clevelands Vic Wertz in the eighth inning of Game 1 of the World Series. Mays jaw-dropping catch nicknamed The Catch preserved a 2-2 tie which the Giants broke two innings later on Dusty Rhodes three-run walk-off home run. San Francisco then went on to capture the Fall Classic by taking the next three games.

Autographs certified by PSA/DNA.
