By virtue of his incredible 1990 season Warren Moon was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of the National Football League and awarded this imposing 31 1/2-inch high trophy bearing a perfect bronze sculpture of the legendary Jim Thorpe. Moon already a veteran of a half dozen seasons in the NFL and a HOF-worthy six-year tenure before that in the Canadian Football League turned in his finest campaign in 1990 passing for 4689 yards and 33 touchdowns - with only 13 interceptions - which turned out to be an average of more than 312 yards per game. The Newspaper Enterprise Association presented an MVP award from 1955 through 1996 decided by a poll of NFL players. The award winner receives the Jim Thorpe Trophy. The heavy bronze sculpture of Thorpe rests elegantly on a 14-inch high intricate pedestal that is primarily a heavy black acrylic stone of roughly 9-square inches at the base and 7-square inches at the top. Four 4-by-10-inch polished wood panels comprise the four sides. On the front side is a heavy metal etched plaque noting in raised letters: "1990 Jim Thorpe Trophy Warren Moon Houston Oilers Most Valuable Player of the National Football League." Beneath that are the raised logos and block-type names of the Newspaper Enterprise Association the National Football League Player Association and the Jim Thorpe Athletic Club. On the opposite wood panel on the back Moon has provided and attractive black Sharpie autograph and added his No.1 inscription. This is among the most prestigious modern era professional football awards ever presented publicly.
