Early in 1956 the Dodgers were invited by Matsutaro Shoriki the founder of the Yomiuri Shimbun and the "Father of Japanese professional baseball" to make a trip to Japan following the regular season. Dodgers' legendary owner Walter O'Malley spent a good deal of time to ensure that the key Dodgers players and manager Walter Alston would make the trip before accepting.
This lot features a pair of very scarce 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers Tour of Japan tie clips received by Alston on that famed sojourn to the Land of The Rising Sun. Each metal tie clip boasts a silver bat design on the front with a Dodger blue enameled Brooklyn cap positioned on the barrel of the bat. On the underside of the cap the words "DODGERS IN JAPAN 1956" is printed in raised lettering next to the maker "DIEGES & CLUST." The tie clips measure two inches long.
