Addendum: Further research indicates this is Alston's Los Angeles Dodgers jacket not Brooklyn as previously stated.

Following the 1953 season Brooklyn Dodgers’ Skipper Charlie Dressen insisted on a multi-year contract to continue as Dodger manager. Brooklyn Owner Walter O'Malley balked at the demand and to everyone's surprise chose the little known Alston to pilot the club. Alston led the Dodgers to a second place finish in 1954 then won the pennant and Brooklyn's only World Series Championship in 1955. The unflappable homespun Ohioan would continue to manage the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers for 23 straight seasons. During that span Alston's Dodger teams suffered only four losing campaigns despite franchise relocation and competing in three different home parks.

This lot features Alston’s game-worn Dodgers warm-up jacket dating to the late 1950’s when the team moved out west to Los Angeles. The blue satin zipper-down jacket reads “Dodgers” across the front in white script tackle twill and is fully insulated. The collar wrists and waistband areas are all sporting Dodger blue and white stripes and both front jacket pockets are lined in blue leather. Inside the left front inseam (opposite of the left front pocket) is the green MacGregor manufacturer’s tag indicating size 50. Adjacent is a white strip tag with “24” and “Alston” printed on boasting the manager’s tailoring measurements: “B-R; S–35–2” L Chest 50.” The bottom of the left sleeve includes Alston’s uniform number “24” in white tackle twill numbers. The jacket exhibits tremendous wear yet remains very-well preserved having been protected by mothballs. The zipper remains intact and works perfectly. Image attached include Alston and other player examples.

LOA from the Alston family.
