This is yet another tall trophy from the collection of legendary Dodgers skipper Walt Alston in this instance an honor for Alston designating him as “Manager of the Year” selected by the Atlanta Braves 400 Club. Alston directed the fortunes of the Dodgers for 23 seasons between 1954 and 1976 and by the time he salted away his sixth National League pennant in 1966 the Atlanta Braves 400 Club the Official Fan Club of the newly arrived Braves was into its second year. The fan club actually formed one year before the ball club arrived from Milwaukee which was probably fitting enough since the rightly aggrieved Midwestern fans had abandoned the Braves once they figured out the club was moving to the Deep South. The gold-plated trophy is approximately 32 inches tall with a gold batter perched atop a gold loving cup with intricate ornate handles. That element sits atop a polished wood pedestal about 13 inches tall with two smaller polished wood pedestals flanking each side with smaller batter figural atop each. A brass nameplate is across the front with engraved “Manager of the Year Award Walt Alston from the Atlanta Braves 400 Club 1966” with each line stacked to seven levels. All elements of the trophy seem to be in largely as-issued and problem-free condition.
