Presented here is yet another tall trophy from the collection of legendary Dodgers skipper Walt Alston in this instance an honor for Alston from his first year as a major league manager. Alston directed the fortunes of the Dodgers for 23 seasons between 1954 and 1976 winning 2040 games seven National League Pennants and four World Series crowns. Awarded to Alston in June of 1954 in only his initial months as Brooklyn manager the honor from the City of Long Branch in Monmouth County New Jersey fittingly enough cites Alston for his work with the younger Dodger players. The gold-plated trophy is approximately 36 inches tall with a gold batter perched atop a baseball which in turn sits atop a loving cup with intricate ornate handles. That element sits atop a “gold” pillar roughly 15 inches tall with 8-inch blonde polished wood circular base. A brass nameplate is across the front with engraved “Presented to Walt Alston Manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers in Recognition of his Fine Work in Developing Young Rookies into National League Ball Players by the City of Long Branch June 23 1954” with each line stacked to 11 levels. All elements of the trophy seem to be in largely as-issued and problem-free condition.
