As they were embarking on their special World Series winning season in 1955, the Brooklyn Dodgers played the Milwaukee Braves in an exhibition game March 31 in New Orleans at Pelican Stadium. A young fan and her family members attended the game and saw many baseball heroes of the day in action, including Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese & Gil Hodges. (Based on the scoring done in the program it does not appear Jackie Robinson played in this game).
She commemorated the occasion by getting the game program autographed by Dodgers stars, color barrier pioneers Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe. The signatures are in bold pencil, have Beckett authentication and display nicely on the program's cover.
There are also ticket stubs from the game which document the date, place and teams. The items were neatly and innocently affixed to scrapbook pages, where they have been until now. The program's back page is also affixed to a scrapbook page, but opens easily to review the team rosters and lineups for the day. This is a unique treat for a Dodgers fan, historian, especially one with interest in the details of the historic 1955 Brooklyn season.
