We all know Babe Ruth was prone to nice gestures. Here is an incredibly unique keepsake you won't find anywhere else. On December 13 1921 while a guest at the Crown Hotel in Providence RI Babe Ruth tipped a young bellboy this very one dollar bill - a generous offering for that era. This boy must have had a window to the future of sports memorabilia because he was smart enough to go back to the Babe four days later and ask for Babe's autograph to verify the transaction. Babe autographed a blank piece of paper even putting "Babe" in quotations as he characteristically did early in his playing career. Ruth's black signature is spectacular rating about an 8/10. The bellboy (J.P. Dooley) has also signed the piece of paper in equally bold black. The young man then got the bright idea to run that same piece of paper through a typewriter with a date and notation of the entire exchange. The $1 bill dated May 18 1914 and significantly larger than today's minted USD bills is included with the Ruth signed paper in a 9" by 11" frame. A small circular face shot of Ruth from a newspaper photo appears below his name. The bellboy eventually passed the family keepsake down to his grand-nephew the consignor of this rare hobby treat.
