Hand made in the early 1900s in San Francisco the Levinson name was the premier manufacturer of boxing gloves and other equipment and quickly the Levinson gloves were being asked for and used in all the championship fights of that era. When James J. Jeffries beat Bob Fitzsimmons Levinson's gloves were used and when Jack Johnson won over Jeffries in Nevada the gloves were used again. Jess Willard wore the largest glove Levinson had made. Pair No. 1 shows enormous use but the iconic Sol Levinson labels at the wrists are particularly notable and without major difficulty. The gloves have the expected holes chipping and tearing and even separation of stitching that you would expect from heavily used equipment; the laces are here and intact. Pair No. 2 sports many of the same characteristics and condition caveats but here there is a bit more damage and wear with both thumbs separated at the stitching along with some larger holes in the hand.
