Nice trio of Brigham Young University Cougars game used helmets whose successful run in the 1970's 80's and 90's under legendary coach LaVell Edwards included 18 WAC titles and the 1984 National Championship. The offensive guru championed a heavy passing scheme during an era of college football still mostly dominated by run attacks. Jim McMahon Steve Young Ty Detmer and Steve Sarkisian are just some of the quarterbacks that benefited from BYU's system. The group comesfrom the museum collection at the San Diego Hallof Champions which sourced many players' helmets directly from the annual Holiday Bowl game played locally.

First we have a vintage Max Pro example missing its interior padding. SDHOC records indicate it was used by LB Leon White in the 1984 Holiday Bowl at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. BYU pulled out a 24-17 victory over Bo Schembechler's Michigan Wolverines to complete a perfect 13-0 season and become undisputed National Champions. White went on to play eight NFL seasons with the Bengals and Rams. We have no other evidence besides the museum's internal notes to verify the player attribution. The helmet shows heavy external use. Its original facemask has separated from the shell due to broken clips and is now connected via zip ties to the earholes.

Next we have a Riddell 'All American' helmet with "95" dated mask clips with a 1996 re-certified sticker inside. It shows significant game use. Player is unknown but there is "46 G" and "8300" marked in black near the left earhole that may indicate attribution. The real prize is the autograph of BYU legend and College Football Hall of Fame coach Lavell Edwards on the exterior in strong 9/10 black Sharpie. Includes chinstrap.

The third and final example Riddell 'All American' helmet with "96" dated clips and 1998 & 1999 re-certified stickers. There is a #41decal on back (LB Spencer Reid '96-97) and a #79 marked sticker inside (OL DustinRykert '98-02) for possible player attribution. It also shows solid game use and comes with its chinstrap.

Letter of provenance from San Diego Hall of Champions. Autograph pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
