For 20 seasons from 1982 to 2001 San Diegos Tony Gwynn was one of the most prolific hitters in all of baseball. Of his 3141 career hits Gwynn swatted a total of 543 doubles. This lot includes the official Major League baseball (Selig) that Gwynn hit to record his 529th career double which tied Al Oliver for 24th on the baseballs all-time list. The hit occurred on May 26 2000 against right-hander Hideki Irabu of the then-Montreal Expos. It came in the bottom of the third inning of San Diegos 6-2 victory at home. Gwynn went 2-for-3 on the day. The game-used baseball shows wear and includes special writing in black ink to call out the milestone: TIED 24th IN DOUBLES 5/26.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.
