This is an important document from the fabled career of Tony Gwynn, arguably one of the most popular National League stars of the modern era and certainly one of the finest hitters the game has ever known. With his eight batting titles and a boatload of National League and major league records over his 20 seasons, the lefty-swinging Gwynn was a throwback to the time when some of the greatest stars would spend their entire career with a single team.

This is the uniform player’s contract for the years 1983-85 for Gwynn, years that included his first three of 19 consecutive seasons of hitting better than .300 and also touched his first of eight National League batting titles. The six-page standard contract – stipulating $335,000 for the three-year span - also features a two-page addendum with language concerning yearly salary payments, guarantees and insurance. Gwynn’s signature and that of Jack McKeon, Padres General Manager, appear on the sixth page of the main contract twice, along with a stamped Charles Feeney as National League President. The two-page addendum has signatures from Gwynn and McKeon and is dated March 12, 1983. The documents are in essentially Ex-Mt or better condition, with the obligatory office punch holes, time stamping, and the like and slight folding from normal office handling. A tremendously important player contract from the early years of an extraordinary and beloved Hall of Famer.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
