The San Diego Padres selected Tony Gwynn in the third round of the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft with the 58th overall pick. He was brought up to the Padres the following year and made his MLB debut on July 19 1982. Gwynn’s stellar baseball career spanned 20 seasons with the San Diego Padres including 15 All-Star Game appearances 8 National League batting titles 2 World Series appearances (1984 and 1998) and a Hall of Fame induction in 2007. Beyond his nearly incomparable resume the indelible impression he left in the hearts and minds of San Diego sports fans is everlasting.
Upon his 2007 enshrinement in Cooperstown Gwynn was presented with this impressive 10K gold ring. The top features a baseball upon a black stone surrounded by “BASEBALL HALL OF FAME” in raised lettering. The left shank has “GWYNN” on a ribbon name plate above crossed bats ball and diamond. Below is home plate with “ELECTED 2007” engraved. The right shank has Gwynn’s position of “RIGHT FIELD” on a ribbon above the facade of the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. A home plate below reads “NATIONAL BASEBALL HALL OF FAME”. The inside of the size 10 ring is stamped with “Jostens 10K”. The ring weighs 24 grams comes housed in a handsome wood presentation box with a glass window (etched "Tony Gwynn San Diego Padres") through which the ring can be displayed. A fitting crown jewel to honor Tony Gwynn’s Hall of Fame career: his one and only Hall of Fame ring.
