San Diego Padres legend Tony Gwynn was one of the most prolific hitters in baseball history. He collected 3,141 career hits on his way to a lifetime batting average of .338. This lot includes the official National League (White) baseball that Gwynn hit to record his 1,600th base knock. The hit occurred on May 30, 1991, against Houston Astros right-hander Jimmy Jones during a 4-0 victory for San Diego at home. The game-used baseball shows wear and includes special writing in black ink to call out the milestone: “My 1600th Base Hit – Hit at San Diego Stadium off of Jimmy Jones of Houston 5-30-91.” It even includes Gwynn’s line score: “AB-4, R-1, H-1, RBI-0.” It also includes his batting average at the time: .352.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.
