Tony Gwynn was a member of baseball’s exclusive “3,000 Hit Club” and registered a total of 3,141 hits during his awe-inspiring, 20-year career with the San Diego Padres. One of his milestone hits (No. 1,135) occurred on Sept. 17, 1988, against right-hander Jim Acker of the Atlanta Braves. The game, which was won by San Diego, 9-4, was the first game of a double-header at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. Gwynn went 2-for-4 on the day and registered the Padres’ all-time club record in hits with an RBI single to right field in the seventh inning. This lot includes the official National League (Giamatti) baseball that Gwynn hit for his 1,135th career base knock. The ball includes a special callout that reads: “1,135th Hit to break All-Time Padres Hit mark off Jim Acker in Atlanta 9/17/88.” It even includes Gwynn’s line score across the sweet spot: “4AB - 1R - 2H - 2RBI.”

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.
