Tony Gwynn's reputation as one of the greatest hitters in baseball history is well supported by his .338 lifetime average ranking him 18th on the all-time list. He is also one of only 24 players to amass over 3000 hits finishing his career with 3141. Presented is a San Diego Padres road jersey worn by Gwynn on July 31 1998 while garnering two of those hits. The game which took place in Montreal witnessed Gwynn getting his 2895th and 2896th knocks of his career. The gray knit jersey is lettered "San Diego" across the front and features the number "19" on the reverse. "Gwynn" is lettered above the number. All letters and numbers are in blue tackle twill with white and orange trim except Gwynns name which is in solid blue. A San Diego team patch adorns the left sleeve. "Russell Athletic (size 50)" label appears on the left front tail. Written in blue ink on the Russell label is the notation Montreal #2895 2896 7-31-98. Gwynn has signed the jersey in silver Sharpie ("9") on the numeral "1" on back. Original and unaltered the jersey displays excellent game wear. The jersey is accompanied by a COA signed by Tonys wife Alicia Gwynn from Bernie-Gwynn Authentic Sports Collectibles.
